Embossing is not a new process and printers have used metal male or female plates to produce raised or recessed images for decades. Professor Cohen however uses silicon on plastic plates to produce his haunting images. Cohen decided to try printing without ink when recently examining some of his collagraph plates. He used his Vandercook Proof Press to emboss into thick damp paper. There is a subtlety of the lines which range down to only a fraction of an inch.
